In the words of St. Irenaeus, “There is no coercion with God.” And on the Monday of the first week of Advent, we learn about “God’s justice.”
We think that justice is “righting” a wrong…and it is in a very general sense. But with God, justice is mirrored in the words of a Roman centurion. First, he admits Jesus is Lord. Then he admits of his unworthiness. And the justice of God? The Lord still wishes to come into his house.
This is how we receive Isaiah’s idea of divine protection: I allow myself to participate in the Justice of God.
