St. Bartimaeus, pray for us!

If you do not have a favorite saint, or, if you are looking for a patron saint, why not choose Bartimaeus?  Blind and homeless probably because of his blindness, he has nothing to lose.  What remains keen in his life is his hearing and his tenacity.  He overcomes the obstacle of people telling him to shut up.  And when Jesus finally calls him, even the detractors change their minds.

His prayer is our prayer, “Lord, I want to see.”  This request is the beginning of true sight and of true discipleship.  Notice that after his healing, St. Bartimaeus follows Jesus on the way. (cf.http://www.usccb.org/bible/mark/10:46)
