Ok, it is Friday after Ash Wednesday. Is Lent limping already?
Then try fasting today. The word “fast” means to “entrust” or “fasten” myself to someone or something.
If Lent is limping then we fasten ourselves to Christ, the bridegroom whose return we await. As we wait for the Christ, we can, in the words of St. Benedict fast from food, drink, sleep, needless talking and idle jesting. And as we wait for the Christ, we can, in the words of Isaiah, fast from oppression, gluttony and pride and so perform justice.
If my Lent limps already then I need those ashes. Today is always a good day to repent again and believe in the Gospel.
