Jesus tells us that it is better to live without a hand, a foot and an eye if they lead me or innocent persons into sin. I have a perfect example of the power of this admonition.
At a Benet Academy (Lisle, IL, USA)) senior retreat called LOGOS, a retreat leader reads aloud this Gospel: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.” Then the student leader speaks about the importance of good Christian example . Little does he know that sitting at the retreat was a classmate who is not only a self-proclaimed atheist but someone who discourages others to be good Christians.
At the end of the retreat when everyone shares their retreat experiences, this so-called atheist asks forgiveness from everyone and tells us all that his classmate’s talk and the Word of God (LOGOS) convinces him about his mistake and his need for faith in God.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
