Today when a person approaches the Western Wall, one encounters a “poor box” for donations. We would expect a box like this to read “Charity,” but actually, the box is labeled “Justice.” It is so Western to think that justice is a repayment of debt. In God’s language justice is the restoration of right relationship throughout God’s creation.
What is the condition of our “justice?”
The young prophet Daniel teaches us integrity and the poor widow of St. Luke’s Gospel teaches us quality.
