When we read St. Paul’s letters we realize that not everyone gets along in the primitive Christian Church. Sts. Luke and Mark seem to be Paul’s faithful followers with others breaking ranks and abandoning Paul’s preaching ministry. One division that occurs in the early Church is the keeping of kosher, the keeping of the Jewish dietary law. Hence, according to St. Luke, Jesus tells his disciples twice to eat and drink what the host puts in front of them.
According to St. Luke, preaching the Kingdom of God means no extra baggage and no ungrateful eaters!
