As the devout Christians made a loud lament over the death of St. Stephen in Jerusalem, so we make loud laments today over the deaths and injured at the Boston Marathon.
We make loud laments for the soul of Martin Richard, eight years old, for Krystle Campbell, twenty-nine years old, and for a Boston University graduate student from the country of China whose name resides in God’s heart. We make loud laments for those many who lost limbs and remain injured in hospitals.
Jesus is the Bread of Life and the source of eternal life. He is our deepest help in time of need. It is so evident that the perpetrator of this crime does not know Christ. This person still hungers for meaning, still thirsts for salvation.
In the words of Martin who drew a sign at school, “No more hurting people. Peace.”
